Quick and Tasty After-School Snacks
Below is the list of snack ideas. This list is intended to provide some ideas and then you can amend them to suit your child’s tastes.
1. Peanut Butter Sandwiches or Peanut Butter & Banana Roll-Ups
Many schools don’t allow nuts or peanut butter, so eating a peanut butter and jam sandwich or banana roll-up after school has almost become a treat.
For a PB & banana roll-up, you spread peanut butter on a whole wheat tortilla, place a whole banana on top, and roll it up. Slice into bite-sized pieces for a fun and filling snack.
2. Veggie Sticks with Hummus
Cut up carrots, celery, cucumbers and bell peppers into sticks. Serve them with a small container of hummus for dipping.
The fresh vegetables give a good crunch!
Plus, a lot of children love finger foods and dipping into sauces so this is a quick and healthy options to do that.
3. Cheese and Crackers
Put together some tasty crackers and slices of your kids’ favorite cheese.
You can also add some grapes or apple slices to provide a serving of fruit.
This is an easy option that kids can make themselves once they’re able to cut the cheese. ( ???? )
4. Greek Yogurt and Berries
Mix a bowl of Greek yogurt with a handful of fresh berries. Add a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of granola for extra flavor and crunch.
I find plain yogurt a little sour so I’ll add just a touch of jam to provide some sweetness to offset the sour.
(And even after adding a teaspoon of jam it is still less sugar than if you buy pre-flavored yogurt from the store.)
I love the simplicity of this option and how kids can prepare this themselves.

5. Apple Slices with Peanut Butter
Chop an apple into pieces and provide some peanut butter or another nut butter to dip into.
It is finger food that kids will love.
6. Mini Quesadillas
Make mini quesadillas with tortillas filled with cheese and leftover cooked vegetables and/or scrambled eggs. Just a quick warm-up in the microwave, and they’re ready to eat!
7. Trail Mix
Create your own trail mix with a mixture of nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and few chocolate chips (if you want). You can also add in some mini pretzels for a little more crunch.
It’s easy to grab and go, and you can make a big batch that lasts all week.
I just suggest portioning it out into smaller containers so your kids don’t end up eating a ton of it after school and “spoiling” their dinner.
8. Smoothie Pops
Blend up a fruit smoothie and pour it into popsicle molds to freeze.
These smoothie pops are a refreshing snack after a warm day and are packed with fruits.
You could add some yogurt to make your own fruity frozen yogurt pops.
If you don’t already have some ice pop molds, you may be able to find them at your local retailer or at Amazon.
Below is a picture of a very popular silicone ice pop mold that is available on Amazon.
The silicone allows you to squeeze the ice pop out instead of just trying to pull the ice pop out by its stick like in rigid plastic molds. (Which often causes the stick to pull out but leaves the ice pop stuck in the mold. )
9. Turkey and Cheese Roll-Ups
Take slices of turkey and cheese and roll them up together.
These can be made in a snap and are great for getting your child to eat some protein.
I like slicing a pickle lengthwise and including this into the roll-up for a little extra taste and crunch.
10. Cottage Cheese Fruit Bowl
Scoop some cottage cheese into a bowl and top it with tasty fruit like diced peaches, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, or any other type of fruit that your child loves.
My daughter likes it with grapes.
It’s a creamy snack that’s full of protein, and is something simple that a child can make for themselves.
(It just helps to have the fruit washed and chopped up so they can quickly grab it.)
11. Homemade Granola Bars
Making your own granola bars provides homemade snack that’s both nutritious and satisfying.
Since this takes some time to prep you could make the bars on Sunday so you have some snacks for the week.
Just searching online for “homemade granola bars” gives you tons of recipes to try out.
These snacks are not only quick to prepare but also tasty, making them perfect for kids who come home hungry after a busy school day!
I hope you’ve found something on this list that’ll work for your children.
