What to use as Bedding for RV Mattresses? [explained]

Sharing is caring!

The size of RV mattresses can be different than the size of your usual mattresses at home. So what bedding do you use for your RV mattresses? That’s what we’ll look at in this article.

(And hint…it doesn’t have to be complicated.)

How do the size of RV Mattresses compare to Home mattresses?

I checked out MattressInsider.com where they list the common size of RV mattresses and compared them to the size of home mattresses as specified on Casper.com

Here is what I found out.

Queen Mattress size – Home Queen vs RV Queen

A regular Queen sized bed for the home is 60″ wide (5-feet wide) by 80″ long (over 6.5 feet long).

A Queen-size RV mattress (often called the Short RV Queen) is still 60″ wide, but only 75″ long.

So it is the same width as your Queen mattress at home, but it isn’t as long: hence the name Short Queen.

(Note, some Short Queens are 74″ long, but 75″ long is the most common. Reference: Mattress Insider)

This means you can use your Queen bedding from home and put it onto your RV queen mattress.

For a Short Queen RV mattress the bedding width from your home set will fit fine, it’ll just be a little long.

But you can simply tuck the excess sheet under the mattress. Tuck it in a little tighter.

(See further below for sheet sets specific to a RV Short Queen Mattress.)

King Size Mattress -Home vs RV

A king mattress for the home is 76″ wide (over 6-feet wide) by 80″ long.

MattressInsider.com states that an RV King mattress is only 72″ wide by either 75″ long or 80″ long.

So an RV King sized bed is NOT as wide as your King sized bed at home.

Here is a link to a RV King Mattresses sheet set available on Amazon that is for a 72″ wide X 80″ long RV King.

Just remember to measure the length of your RV King mattress to see if it is 75″ long or 80″ long.

RV Bunk Mattress Size

There is a large variety of RV bunk mattress sizes.

For instance, in my sister’s old travel trailer, it had Twin sized bunk beds. So she just used a twin sheet set and comforter.

But in her new trailer it has double size mattress, which some people call “FULL” size.

So they just use “Full Size” sheets and bedding.

According to Casper.com a FULL size mattress is 53″ X 75″.

And MattressInsider considers an “RV Full” to also be 53″ X 75″.

So according to these references, a FULL mattress for the home is the same as a RV FULL mattress.

Can you get bedding specific to fit a RV Queen Mattress?

Yes. I mentioned above that an RV Short Queen mattress is the same width as a Home Queen, but it’s shorter.

So most people just use their Queen sheet sets from home in their RV and then tuck in the extra length, but you can get specially-sized sheet sets.

Some companies do make sheet sets that’ll fit a RV Queen mattress (the short queen).

For instance, below is a sheet set available on Amazon where the fitted sheet is intended to fit a 60″ X 75″ RV Short Queen mattress.

It is really popular on Amazon.

Looking to replace your RV mattress?

If so, you should read this article first on 6 Things to Know before you buy a new RV Mattress.

Bedding for RV Mattresses doesn’t have to be complicated.

Usually you can just use your bedding from home and then tuck any extra material under the mattress.

But of course if you want tight-fitting bedding for your RV mattresses, there are lots of options on Amazon.

I hope this has helped you with learning the difference in sizes between RV mattresses and home mattresses, and what you can do to get bedding for your RV.
