9 popular RV Dish Storage Ideas (to organize camper cabinets)

Sharing is caring!

Most campers have a separate set of dishes for their RV. (And a special RV hack is to get a different color of dishes for your camper dishes than your home dishes so you won’t mix them up.) You need to protect your RV dishes better than you do at home (for travel days), so you need some RV dish storage ideas.

In this article I’ll highlight 8 ideas to help you organize your camping dishes. [I’ve updated it…it used to be 7 ideas 🙂 ]

RV Dish Storage Ideas – List of 9 Handy Ideas

Below we’ve listed some different ways to store dishes in your RV.

Not all of these ideas will work for you though so make sure to scroll through them all to see if one is right for you.

For instance, what works in our pop up camper may not be right for a large Class A motorhome that has more cabinet space.

And the needs of a stationary RV parked at a site for months at a time are different than in camper that travels frequently.

1. Camco Plastic Stack-a-Plate Organizer

Camco Stack-A-Plate- Easily Organize, Store and Protect Plates During Travel, Non- Slip Backing, Simply Dispense Plates During Later Use, Great For RVs - White (43601)

The Stack-a-Plate organizer (shown above) is made by the leader in RV accessories, Camco.

There is a non-slip grip on the bottom so it won’t slide around while driving. But you could always use double-sided tape if you really wanted to adhere it in place.

The set comes with 2 plate organizers (dinner plates and saucer plates).

The small one fits plates up to 7.25″ and the larger one fits plates up to 10.25″.

These may help prevent sliding plates while stopping.

2. Upright Dinner Plate Holder

Home-X 11-Inch Dinner Plate Holder. Holds Plates in Upright Position

These upright plate holders are designed to fit 6 dinner plates.

You could use 2-sided tape to adhere them into your camper cupboard if you wanted to ensure they don’t slide around.

They are quite popular on Amazon, but there are two different sizes.

This is this 11″ size, plus they make a 9″ size for salad plates.

3. Vertical Dishes Organizer (set of 2)

ORZ Plate Organizer for Cabinet, Set of 2 Plate Holders Metal Plate Storage Rack for Counter-top and Cupboard

RV owners love this set to help organize their cabinets.

The big rack holds larger diameter dinner plates while the smaller rack can hold saucers, soup bowls, cereal bowls, etc…

You can place these directly into your cabinets, or place them inside plastic basket and take out the basket during meal time then put back when you’re done.

A lot of the customer-submitted reviews on Amazon are actually from RV owners and how they use racks to contain their camping dishes.

4. Plate and Cutlery Organizer (All in one RV dish storage idea)

Eltow Black Plate and Cutlery Organizer: Large Kitchen Spoon, Fork, Knives and Cups Holder -Stylish Sturdy Bowl, Napkin and Tableware Dispenser - Home, Restaurant, BBQ and Picnic Plate Organizer Caddy

This product by Eltow is marketed towards organizing dishes for picnics or birthday parties, but it would make a convenient organizer for your RV kitchen.

It would be best if you had plastic dishes in your RV.

There is a spot for dinner plates, salad plates, stackable cups and bowls, and also room for your cutlery.

Will this work for your needs?

My sister has something similar in her 5th-wheel trailer. She doesn’t use it for her main dishes but she keeps paper plates and cutlery in there for outdoor meals. You’ll always be ready for a picnic or fireside meal with a holder like this.

5. Bamboo Dish Rack to hold plates (and more)

HBlife 2pcs Bamboo Dish Plate Bowl Cup Book Pot Lid Cutting Board Drying Rack Stand Drainer Storage Holder Organizer Kitchen Cabinet(Keep Dry)

You could use this bamboo dish rack as a drying rack, or you could keep it dry and use it in your RV cabinets as a RV dish storage idea.

Just be careful on travel days…the plates would slide around unless you had them tucked in a cupboard and wrapped in dish clothes.

It comes with 2 racks.

Think these may work for you?

6. Collapsible Food Dishes (with lids)

CARTINTS Reusable Silicone Food Storage Containers Collapsible Food Storage Containers Collapsible Silicone Bowls Silicone Lunch Box Containers with Airtight Lids, Good for Travel and Camping, 3Pack

These silicone food storage dishes are collapsible to maximize storage in your small RV kitchen.

They are a clever space-saving RV dish storage idea.

And because they are made of silicone and not ceramic, you don’t have to worry about them shattering during travel days. (Great if you have young kids too.)

You can store leftovers in them (put them in the fridge), they can go in the microwave and then you can eat directly from the bowls.

Once empty you can clean them, collapse them and toss them in your cupboard. They are a 3-pack…so you get the 3 food containers and a lid for each one.

You may be able to find them at a local retailer, or you can click here to see them on Amazon.

They are available in different colors too.

7. RV Kitchen Cabinet Shelf

Seville Classics Iron Slat Expandable Kitchen Counter and Cabinet Shelf, Platinum

A kitchen cabinet shelf like the one shown above is a great space-saving product for small cabinets. Allows you to make use of vertical space.

It is adjustable to fit different cupboard sizes.

It adjusts from 15.75″ to 30″ wide so it should fit in your camper cabinets.

It could be used in your home, or in your RV. If you use in your RV you may need an adhesive (or putty) to prevent sliding during travel days.

It would be fantastic for plastic dishes, or if you use protectors between your plates.

8. Extra Shelf to hang under Kitchen shelves or under table

A popular option to give yourself more storage room in your RV kitchen is to use one of these wire shelves that slide onto an existing shelf or table.

This cool product made by Cambond.

If these won’t fit in your cabinets, perhaps they’d fit under the RV kitchen table if you don’t regularly sit there.

9. Stackable Cup/Bowl Holder

Stackable cup holder

I bought these coffee cups and their stand second-hand.

What’s cool is that the cups are big enough they can double as bowls. So right there you can eliminate an assortment of dishes just by getting double-duty cups/bowls.

Right now I just have them on my counter, but if you’re going to put something like this in your RV, you can get “nail-in clips” that are commonly used to hold wires against wood. You could nail the clip over the bottom of this stand and into your cabinet.

Get Plastic Dishes (to avoid breaks)

If you’re worried about breaking ceramic plates or smashing glass cups during travel days, you could look into getting plastic dishes.

Melamine dish sets like the one shown below are chip and break-resistant dishes. Melamine should not be microwaved or put in the oven though, so keep that in mind.

Gibson Home Soho Grayson Square Melamine Dinnerware Set, Service for Four (16pcs), Grey

This attractive, 16-piece Melamine dinnerware set is made by Gibson Home. Can you imagine bringing these out for your outdoor camping picnic dinners?
